the Weingart Center @ 6th & San Pedro with a new paint job
The Weingart Center recently completed a paint job on it’s building at 6th and San Pedro. It is a HUGE improvement. The building itself dates from from the early twentieth century.
the grey color near the ground was smart- our streets get a lot of foot traffic and still get pretty dirty despite recent improvements
The story of Ben Weingart, who originally owned this building when it was the El Rey Hotel, can be read here– his story is one of the most inspirational ones I have read in a while- read it, and learn a lot about the history of downtown Los Angeles.

this postcard from the 1940’s shows the building when it was the “Hotel El Rey”
